XpertHR Employment Law Manual - EEO - Affirmative Action: Florida

Author: Kamilah L. Perry

Summary

  • Similar to Title VII, the Florida Civil Rights Act (FCRA) prohibits employment practices that discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, handicap, or marital status. While private employers are not required to take affirmative action in employment practices under the FCRA, certain requirements must be met if a private employer voluntarily implements an affirmative action program. See Private Employers.

  • Florida requires public employers to maintain affirmative action plans under the Public Employment Affirmative Action Law. See Affirmative Action for Public Employers.
